In April 2024, the NFL Draft brought a wave of excitement to Detroit, but the impact extended far beyond the football field. Among the highlights was the heartwarming volunteer work by Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye at our Detroit Veterans Housing Program (DVHP). Their dedication and generosity have left a lasting impression on our community.
The event, organized in collaboration with Lowe’s Home Improvement and the Bob Woodruff Foundation, aimed to enhance the living conditions for veterans residing at our facility. Sam LaPorta and Drake Maye, along with local Lowe’s Red Vest associates, rolled up their sleeves to tackle various renovation projects. From installing new shelves in the food pantry to upgrading appliances like refrigerators and washers, their efforts have significantly improved the daily lives of our veterans.
The event was more than just a day of volunteering; it was a testament to the power of collaboration and the positive change that can be achieved when people come together for a common cause. The upgrades and improvements made during this event will benefit our veterans for years to come, providing them with a safe and supportive space as they transition back to civilian life.
